Wellness: Healthy Food Choices

Healthy food plateMaking food choices for a healthy lifestyle can be a challenge. Everywhere you turn, there is news about what is or isn’t good for you.

But a few basic tips have withstood the test of time. Eat more vegetables, fruits and whole grains. Cut back on foods high in solid fats, added sugars and salt. Drink water instead of pop or other sugary drinks.

When combined with exercise, a healthy diet can help you lose weight, lower your cholesterol level and improve the way your body functions on a daily basis.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s website www.ChooseMyPlate.gov offers good information about nutrition for children and adults. Check out My Plate videos and the “Ten Tips Nutrition Education” series.
