In Aitkin, there are two great choices for farmers markets:
On Tuesdays, 10 AM to 12 PM, June 17 through August, Riverwood Healthcare Center hosts three vendor stalls from Sprout MN, Grandpa G’s Farm and Laundrus Farm. Eggs, herbs, cooking oils, jams, fruit and vegetables are just some of the products to be sold. The three stalls will be set up in the parking lot (south entrance area) at 200 Bunker Hill Drive, Aitkin.
On Saturdays, 8 AM to noon, the parking lot of the Butler Building (301 Minnesota Ave N in downtown Aitkin) hosts half a dozen vendors including Chengwatana Farm, Country Bumpkin Crafts, Gun Lake Potato Farm, Lakeland Soap, TR Farms and Ranch, and Wellspring Farms. This market features a wonderful diversity of products from bedding plants, eggs, rhubarb and spinach to handmade soaps, fresh breads, jellies and jams, cookies, dog treats, maple syrup and more.
Challenge yourself to eat a new vegetable or fruit each week of the summer. As we get further into the growing season, your choices will multiply with the wider variety of products. So grab your shopping bag, and a friend or family member, and join the growing movement to eating locally grown food.
