Riverwood Healthcare will host a program called “Mindful Eating” on Wed., Feb. 11, 12 to 1 p.m. at the Y Club in Garrison.

Join Julie Anne Larkin, mindfulness coach, to experience mindful eating and explore our complex relationship with food. Using all of the senses – taste, touch, smell, hearing, body and mind – participants will immerse themselves in a mindful eating practice and have an opportunity to consider their relationship with food and eating, an integral part of everyday life.

Larkin will also touch on the concepts of buying local, eating food in season, chemicals and additives in processed food, and the importance of including a broad array of whole foods in your diet.

“There are so many emotions and feelings tied to eating like comfort, happiness, boredom and stress relief,” Larkin explains. “We also have the need to be healthy and fit and know our eating habits are tied to that as well. Mindful eating invites us to be present in the moment with our food and fully experience it, which allows us, perhaps, to see things in a new way. In our rushed and distracted culture, this can be a rare experience for many.”

With a free light lunch being served, registration is required. To RSVP call Riverwood’s events line at (218) 927-5188 or email healthyliving@riverwoodhealthcare.org
