Breast cancer screenings plus pampering

Pink ballons pixWE HAVE FILLED ALL APPOINTMENTS but the Sage program is available year-round to help pay for breast and cervical cancer screenings for women 40 to 64 without health insurance or high deductible plans.

Riverwood Healthcare Center is sponsoring a special breast cancer screening with spa-like services on Wed., Oct. 21, 3 to 7 p.m. at the hospital in Aitkin.

Get a clinical breast exam and mammogram and enjoy some pampering with services like massage, fingernail painting and light refreshments.

Who should participate?

Women who don’t have health insurance and are aged 40 to 64 can qualify for free breast cancer screening through the Sage program. Those with a high deductible health plan may be eligible as well. Eligibility for Sage is based on specified household annual income guidelines ($29,425 for 1, $39,825 for 2, $60,625 for 4).

For those who have health insurance, this may be a convenient evening time to fit a busy work and family schedule. Allow about 30 minutes for the exam and mammogram.

Amy Renner, registered oncology nurse and oncology care coordinator at Riverwood, states: “Keeping current with your annual breast health screenings can lead to early detection and treatment of breast cancer. This important step offers peace of mind and can be life-saving. Plus, women who participate in our special screening can enjoy a few perks and win some door prizes.”

Appointments are required as there is limited availability. To schedule an exam, call Riverwood’s Radiology department at (218) 927-5515.
