Is acid reflux or heartburn reducing enjoyment of life?

Learn more at a Reflux and Heartburn Solutions program on Thurs., May 18, 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the Light of the Cross Lutheran Church in Garrison. Hear from Dr. Paul Severson, reflux specialist with the Minnesota Reflux and Heartburn Center at Riverwood in Aitkin and Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby, about the dramatic advances in medical professionals’ understanding of heartburn and reflux as well as the development of advanced diagnostics and treatment.

Over 30 percent of the population suffers to some degree with this ailment and most are treated with either over-the-counter medications or prescription drugs. However, it is estimated that 7 million people in the U.S. are failing treatment on medications and are dissatisfied. In addition, many years of reflux can introduce an abnormal lining called Barrett’s esophagus, which can lead to cancer of the esophagus. Esophageal cancer is the fastest rising cancer in the U.S., with over a 600 percent increase in just three decades.

The team of reflux specialists for the Minnesota Reflux and Heartburn Center is committed to offering ongoing education on reflux disease to promote awareness of symptoms to watch for and how they can be treated effectively with innovative therapies.

There is no cost for this program and a light meal will be served. Registration is required. Call Riverwood at (218) 927-5188 or email healthyliving@riverwoodhealthcare.org
