Learn recipes for Heart Health

Tim Arnold, MD, Riverwood Family Physician

Riverwood Healthcare Center is sponsoring an informal lunch and learn seminar for people concerned about heart health.

A program called “Wholehearted Health: Recipes for a Healthy Lifestyle” will be held Tues., Feb. 11, 12:00 to 1:00 pm, at the Fireside Inn on Highway 65, one-half mile north of McGregor. Dr. Tim Arnold, Riverwood family physician, will address common factors that can lead to heatt disease, including coronary artery disease, hypertension, stroke or atrial fibrillation, as well as diabetes. Participants will learn what they can do to reduce their risks of developing these conditions.

“Heart health is crucial to your quality of life,” says Dr. Tim Arnold. “Yet, many people are not even aware that they have conditions that can compromise their heart health. Metabolic syndrome, for instance, sets the table for diabetes, heart disease and stroke. Without a diagnosis and lifestyle changes, many people with pre-diabetes develop type 2 diabetes within 10 years. During that time, long-term damage to the heart and circulatory system has occurred due to high glucose levels.”

The good news is that even if you have already developed diabetes or cardiovascular disease, or have had a stroke, you can still work on creating a better recipe for a healthier lifestyle.

The one-hour seminar will emphasize awareness of risk factors and what can be done to combine medical care with lifestyle changes to optimize heart health. Those in attendance will also receive some real recipes that they can cook up at home with ingredients that can improve their heart health.

This seminar will include a free heart healthy lunch. As space is limited, you need to pre-register for this lunch and learn program. To register or for more information, contact Riverwood at (218) 927-5552 or healthyliving@riverwoodhealthcare.org
