Some conditions as well as some lifestyle factors can put individuals at a higher risk for developing heart disease. You can take steps to lower your risk of heart disease and heart attack by addressing these risk factors.
To learn more, attend a seminar called “The Road Map to Heart Health” on Thurs., Sept. 19, 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Butler’s Opera House in downtown Aitkin. This program is sponsored by Riverwood Healthcare and Minneapolis Heart Institute (MHI).
Dr. Tim Dirks, MHI cardiologist who sees patients at Riverwood’s specialty clinic in Aitkin, will talk about three key steps to take to improve and maintain your heart health. They include: 1) How to understand your level of risk for having a heart attack; 2) Important things you can do to lower your risk for heart disease; and 3) How to manage your risk. Discussion will include risk factors, nutrition, exercise and advances in cardiac screening.
“This is a great opportunity to get some tips from an expert and find out what steps you can take today to lower your risk for heart disease,” says Lisa Kruse, Riverwood wellness coordinator. “This health seminar is one in a series of education and wellness events that Riverwood will sponsor throughout the year ahead to engage community residents in improving their health and wellness. Check our Riverwood website for wellness resources and programs in your community. ”
The seminar will be held on the second floor, which is accessible via elevator. There is no cost and a light healthy snack will be served. Registration is requested. Call Riverwood Education at (218) 927-5552 or email education@riverwoodhealthcare.org
