Therapy services move to front of facility

As part of its clinic expansion project in Aitkin, Riverwood Healthcare Center will open a new addition for therapy services on Mon., Oct. 22.

The current rehabilitation department will close on Fri., Oct. 19, for the move to the front of Riverwood’s Aitkin facility with a new entrance to the right of the main hospital and clinic entrance. Patients and visitors will see a new sign, Therapy Services, above the new entrance.

“We are changing the name of our department from Rehabilitation to Therapy Services in coordination with the move timing,” said Jill Sadlowsky, Therapy Services manager. “The new name is more inclusive of wide range of therapy services we offer. Our therapy staff is thrilled to be moving into the larger space that will allow us to accommodate more patients, offer greater privacy, and expand some of our services such as pediatric care.”

The three main disciplines offered at Riverwood include physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. Specialty areas include orthopaedic rehab, sports medicine, hand therapy, lymphedema therapy, concussion/brain injury/ stroke rehab, LSVT BIG and LOUD (Parkinson’s), incontinence program, cognitive assessments/therapy, communication/articulation therapy, swallow studies, and job placement assessment.

Some of the key new patient-friendly features of the therapy department include:

  • Closer parking with less walking
  • Drive-up convenience with closer drop-off/ pick-up
  • Easier access to therapy services through the clinic
  • Larger gym space with pediatric equipment added
  • More private treatment rooms
  • Expanded space for speech and occupational therapy

“These new features together will greatly enhance the therapy experience for our patients,” Sadlowsky added. “We want to thank all our patients and their family members for their patience and understanding during our construction period over the past year.”

Renovation will begin on the existing therapy area this fall to renovate the space for a new kidney care and dialysis center with nine patient bays for kidney dialysis, which will be operated by CentraCare Health and open in later 2019.

Riverwood’s Therapy Services appointments line number in Aitkin will remain the same at 218-927-5580.
