Riverwood welcomes new Garrison pharmacy manager

Valerie Corcoran Bahl, PharmD, Garrison Pharmacy Manager

Riverwood Healthcare Center is pleased to introduce Valerie Corcoran Bahl as the new manager of its Garrison pharmacy. Following 17 years of managing the Garrison pharmacy, John Mateyka is cutting back to casual status.

“We are so grateful for John’s long-term service and dedication to Riverwood and our Garrison pharmacy customers and wish him all the best in the future,” said Director of Pharmacy Spencer Page. “Val brings excellent pharmaceutical skills and customer service experience to managing the pharmacy and we are fortunate to have her join us in this important leadership role.”

As pharmacy manager, Corcoran Bahl will oversee inventory management, increasing pharmacy services offered to patients, customer service, and staff management. One of her biggest roles will be to standardize workflow throughout all three Riverwood retail pharmacies to improve the quality and safety of care to ensure high-quality, compassionate and personal care that patients expect.

With 13 years working as a pharmacist for both Riverwood and other hospital inpatient and retail pharmacies, Corcoran Bahl brings experience in oncology, intensive care, and emergency medicine. She also helped develop the inpatient pharmacy residency program and worked as a preceptor in cardiology and emergency medicine.

Corcoran Bahl’s education background includes earning an associate degree at Bemidji State University, and completing a bachelor’s degree in Pharmaceutical Science with a minor in Chemistry and a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from North Dakota State University (NDSU).

Corcoran Bahl comments on her approach to medical care: “As a pharmacist, I have an appreciation for modern medicine in the treatment of symptoms and disease, but I also believe that a whole-body approach to one’s overall health is important. Lifestyle factors, including but not limited to exercise, nutrition, socioeconomic issues and external exposure to toxins, can significantly affect our health and well-being.”

Corcoran Bahl and her husband, Matt, live in Nisswa with their three children, Karsten, Jeret and Ainsley. Away from work, she enjoys gardening, canning, fishing, watching NDSU Bison football, and spending time with family and friends.

Riverwood’s Garrison pharmacy is co-located with its clinic at 27278 State Highway 18 on the west side of Garrison. The pharmacy hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, and closed on Sunday. The pharmacy can be reached during these hours at 320-525-3401.
