The first baby of the year didn’t wait for her mother to get to the hospital in Aitkin. At 8:29 a.m. on Jan. 19, Kelsey Henson had to do a self-delivery in the car while a friend was driving. Her daughter, Javeah Mae, arrived in a hurry midway between Brainerd and Aitkin near Deerwood. The father, Jeremy Henson, was following close behind in another vehicle and on hand to help his wife and baby transfer to an ambulance for the remaining 10 miles to Riverwood Healthcare Center where Dr. Don Hughes was the attending physician.
At 20 ¾ inches long, Javeah weighs 8 lbs., 7 oz. She joins three big sisters at home in Brainerd. Riverwood’s OB staff presented the family with a gift basket of baby items.
