Riverwood Healthcare Center is pleased to announce that James Furda, MD, a board-certified internist specializing in heart-related concerns with the Minneapolis Heart Institute, will begin seeing patients at its specialty clinic in Aitkin the first week in April.
Practicing with the Minneapolis Heart Institute since 2007, Dr. Furda specializes in cardiovascular diseases, echocardiography, women’s heart health and peripheral vascular diseases.
“We are thrilled to have another Minneapolis Heart Institute physician offering cardiac care here,” says Dr. Mark Heggem, chief medical officer. “Dr. Furda’s expertise and experience will help us meet the growing need for cardiac care for our aging population in Aitkin County and nearby communities.”
Earning his medical degree at the University of Iowa College of Medicine, Dr. Furda completed his internal medicine internship and residency at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.
“I have always considered my primary role as part of the medical team to be an advocate for my patients, giving advice and making recommendations so patients receive the best medical care possible,” Dr. Furda says. “I am pleased to help patients obtain the finest cardiovascular care available through the Minneapolis Heart Institute.”

Dr. Furda and his wife, Julie, live in Brainerd. They have two married sons. Dr. Furda enjoys spending time with his family and grandchildren, fly fishing, biking and outdoor activities at a family cabin in Merrifield.
In addition to Aitkin, Dr. Furda also sees patients at Baxter and Crosby clinics.
