Recognized for her 35-plus years of helping her community, March of Dimes honored Katherine Galliger as the 2013 Rural Health Nurse of the Year at the annual Nurse of the Year awards on Oct. 26. Kathy was honored for her leadership and guidance to young nurses.
“Kathy is respected by the physicians and nursing staff that she works with,” said supervisor Kristine Layne in her nomination. “Patients often comment on the kind and personal care that she gives. And the staff have a saying when they are facing a tough situation, ‘What would Kathy Galliger do?’.”
Galliger was recognized for being a key figure in her hospital for medication safety and fall prevention. She primarily works the night shift to teach and mentor young nurses.
March of Dimes celebrated Nurse of the Year winners in 15 categories at a dinner and awards program Sat., Oct. 26, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Minneapolis. Nurse of the Year winners all display great leadership skills and have made significant contributions to their community and to the profession of nursing.
