Beginning the week of July 17-21, construction work will begin on a major expansion and renovation of Riverwood Healthcare Center’s clinic facilities in Aitkin.
Riverwood will host a groundbreaking program on Mon., July 17, at 3 p.m. This event will be held on the northeast side of the parking lot near the Healing Garden. The program will include an overview of the expansion project, touching on local community health care needs.
Light refreshments will be served. RSVPs are requested to Paula Eklund Fisher, (218) 927-8286 or peklund-fisher@riverwoodhealthcare.org
The project will proceed in four phases with an estimated completion planned for early 2019 and an investment of $14 million. The groundbreaking event marks the launch of Riverwood Foundation’s Growing Together Capital Campaign to invite community support, which has historically played a critical role in helping Riverwood enhance its facilities and services.
The project, which will tap Kraus-Anderson as the construction firm, will include:
- Renovation of space to offer comprehensive kidney care and a new kidney dialysis facility to be operated in partnership with CentraCare Health.
- Redesign of the specialty clinic, allowing for expansion of current service lines, including a new GI lab for the Minnesota Reflux & Heartburn Center.
- Renovation of the Aitkin primary care clinic will support a team-based approach, continuing to advance well-coordinated and patient-centered care.
- Relocation and expansion of the rehabilitation department, providing easier access for patients.
- Expansion of space to allow for growth in the orthopaedic department with easier access and additional imaging capabilities.
The areas under construction will be completely closed off with temporary walls to separate them from the rest of the facility until they are finished.
To prepare for the construction project, the entrance to the rehabilitation department and parking stalls on the north side of the hospital will close on July 10. Those coming for appointments in the rehabilitation area, including physical, occupational or speech therapy; audiology; ear, nose and throat; or podiatry, will need to park near the main entrance and enter the main lobby. Signs will direct patients to the rehabilitation department, and volunteers will be on hand to offer information as needed.
