Riverwood Healthcare Center is hosting a cancer support group that will meet monthly on the fourth Wednesdays, 2:30 to 4:00 p.m., from April through November. The group will meet in the hospital’s Support Services wing in room E.
The group is open to women with any type of cancer. Women who have been newly diagnosed with cancer or been cancer survivors for many years can all benefit from attending.
For each monthly meeting, there will be a specific topic and speaker. The first meeting on April 25 will feature Riverwood Registered Dietitian Megan Perpich on Nutritious Recipe Modifications. Upcoming topics will include immunizations, supplements, coping with depression and anxiety, lifestyle modifications, female health care issues, and pain/opioid medications.
The meeting time will include time to share experiences and support one another, to listen and learn. No registration is required and light refreshments will be served.
Jan Hegman, nurse practitioner and oncology care coordinator, will facilitate the cancer support group. For any questions, call her at (218) 429-3975 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
“A group of breast cancer survivors has been meeting at Riverwood for more than 10 years,” Hegman explained. “Now we are opening up the support group to women with any type of cancer and changing the meeting time to afternoon instead of evening. You do not have to be a Riverwood patient to participate in the group. If you are a woman whose life has been touched by cancer, we would love to have you join us.”
