Riverwood Healthcare Center is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Joel Madson to its family medicine team. Dr. Madson will provide comprehensive primary care services at Riverwood’s clinics in Aitkin and McGregor, caring for patients of all ages.
Dr. Madson is already a familiar face to many in the region, having previously served the community as a University of Minnesota Rural Physician Associate Program (RPAP) medical student at Riverwood. His return marks a meaningful continuation of his long-standing commitment to rural healthcare and the communities Riverwood serves.
He brings a strong clinical background tailored to the diverse needs of rural communities, with advanced training and clinical expertise across multiple areas:
- Family medicine and lifelong primary care
- Obstetrics and comprehensive prenatal support
- Pediatrics and newborn care
- Emergency medicine and urgent clinical interventions
- Office-based procedures and localized treatments
- Point-of-care ultrasound diagnostics
“I am passionate about rural medicine, and I approach patient care with a compassionate, understanding perspective,” said Dr. Madson. “Having previously experienced the exceptional community and clinical environment at Riverwood, I look forward to returning to care for local individuals and families while becoming an active part of these wonderful communities.”
Dr. Madson earned his medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School and completed his residency training through the CentraCare St. Cloud Family Medicine Residency Program. His training equips him to address a broad range of healthcare needs, from preventive care and chronic disease management to maternity and pediatric care and acute medical concerns.
Riverwood Chief Operating Officer Cindi Baker noted that Dr. Madson exemplifies the qualities patients value most in a primary care physician. “One of the attributes that stood out to us during Dr. Madson’s time here as an RPAP student—and throughout his residency—is his genuine dedication to rural Minnesota communities,” said Cindi Baker. “He pairs outstanding clinical training with a down-to-earth, empathetic approach that ensures patients feel heard, respected, and expertly cared for. We are thrilled to welcome him back to the Riverwood team.”
Outside of medicine, he enjoys hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time outdoors with his family. His familiarity with the area and appreciation for small-town living make the lakes region a natural fit for him and his family.
Dr. Madson is currently accepting patients at Riverwood’s Aitkin and McGregor clinics. To schedule an appointment or to learn more, please call 218-927-2157 or visit riverwoodhealth.org.
