Riverwood Foundation recently received a gift of $45,000 from the Katharine Lord Trust in appreciation for the care Katharine Dumont Lord received at Riverwood Healthcare Center.
To formally recognize this gift, Riverwood CEO Chad Cooper did a presentation to Lord’s Riverwood care team in August to thank them and recognize all that they do to go above and beyond caring for patients.
Cooper stated: “We are proud of your service to our patients and thank you for going above and beyond every single day and making our patients your number one priority.”
Lord, a resident of Aitkin for 22 years, passed away in October 2012. A patient of Rebecca May, Riverwood nurse practitioner, Lord had commented that she was very thankful for Rebecca’s excellent care and compassion for her and was grateful for the expedience of her treatment when diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2010. May helped her to set up appointments and seek cancer treatment at the University of Minnesota’s health system.
After surgery and treatment in the Twin Cities and in Brainerd, Lord returned home to Riverwood and continued to receive her chemotherapy treatment where she felt the most comfortable.
Lord appreciated the outstanding care that she received from the nursing staff in the Infusion Center. She said that the infusion center nurses became like “friends” caring for her. She loved the way the nurses made her feel so comfortable during her battle with her cancer. She looked forward to the chats she had with the nurses on her infusion days.
Jodie Johnson, Riverwood Foundation director, added: “We are very grateful for such a generous gift that enables Riverwood Healthcare to continue to make a difference for the patients we serve. We are proud of the compassionate approach of our staff, taking those extra steps to communicate their caring and concern. We strive to make every patient experience one that is marked by excellent care and filled with compassion for the patient and the family.”
