Proceeds from this year’s event will support the new Kidney Care & Dialysis Center at Riverwood Healthcare Center in Aitkin. Aitkin County has a rapidly aging population with more than 30% of its residents 65 years or older, many of those living in rural areas outside Aitkin, Palisade, McGregor and Hill City. The incidence of chronic kidney disease is increasing most rapidly in people age 60 and older, so the area’s need for kidney dialysis will continue to grow in the years ahead. Currently, for Aitkin County residents the nearest dialysis facilities are located in Brainerd or Duluth, a round-trip of 60-100 miles for some residents. Patients on dialysis typically need to go for treatment three days/week.
To address this need, Riverwood will partner with the CentraCare Kidney Program. CentraCare is a recognized leader in kidney care throughout central Minnesota, bringing both extensive expertise and a philosophy of care that will serve our patients well. They will be an exceptional partner and will provide outpatient renal dialysis services featuring the most state-of-the-art technologies and personalized patient comfort to serve local patients who need dialysis treatment.
Adding kidney care and dialysis to our Aitkin clinic campus supports a stated priority within Riverwood’s strategic plan to respond to growing demands for specific health services.
“This is an opportunity to support a cause you care about while pursuing a sport you enjoy and socializing with friends,” says Katie Nelson, Riverwood Foundation Director. “We’re still seeking event sponsors and urge anyone wanting to form a golf foursome for the tournament to do so as soon as possible.”
