A breast cancer diagnosis can turn life upside down, bringing a wave of questions, decisions and emotions for patients and their families. During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Riverwood is highlighting the importance of early detection and the local resources available to support patients throughout their cancer journey.
Regular screenings remain one of the most effective tools for detecting breast cancer early, often before symptoms appear. At Riverwood, women have access to 3D mammography services in Aitkin and McGregor, as well as breast MRI for patients who may benefit from enhanced screening based on personal risk factors, family history or provider recommendations.
For those facing a diagnosis, Riverwood offers comprehensive oncology services. Riverwood’s cancer team includes an oncology physician, oncology nurse practitioner, oncology nurse navigator, surgeons and specially trained infusion nurses who work together to provide personalized treatment and guidance.
Riverwood provides chemotherapy and immunotherapy services locally, helping many patients receive treatment near family, friends and their support system. In addition to medical care, patients have access to nutrition counseling, lymphedema therapy, mental health support, financial services and cancer navigation resources. Riverwood also offers a monthly Cancer Support Group for those undergoing treatment, living with cancer or navigating survivorship.
“Cancer care is about much more than treatment alone,” said Tina Hughley, Infusion Manager. “It’s about helping patients feel informed, supported and cared for throughout their journey. Our team is committed to providing that support through every stage.”
