Lisa Streadwick, RN, Riverwood Healthcare Center
The latest nurse to receive the DAISY Award, recognition for outstanding nursing, at Riverwood Healthcare Center is Lisa Streadwick, a registered nurse for the hospital inpatient unit. She has worked for Riverwood for three years, caring for medical, surgical and obstetrics patients.
Riverwood participates in the DAISY Award honoring exemplary nurses who have been recognized by a patient for their extraordinary act of compassion or a relationship that they have created with a patient that truly made a difference. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.
Dean Mutchler, a Riverwood patient who nominated Nichole for the DAISY Award, shared these comments: “Lisa was always going above and beyond, so pleasant and caring, during my hospital stay for knee surgery. She is meant for what she is doing and truly deserves the DAISY Award.”
Streadwick comments on her passion for nursing, “I learned to care for people from an early age. Watching my mom and dad be there for family and friends whenever they needed a helping hand and providing care for my grandparents as a family when their health declined was a motivating factor in my decision to become a nurse. We all need someone to be kind and do the little things that matter when we don’t feel our best; being able to be that person for my patients is so rewarding. “
Streadwick lives in McGregor with her husband, Chris, and their 2-year-old son, Holden. They enjoy watching their son learn to love the outdoors and family time together boating on the lake.
Riverwood Chief Nursing Officer Carla Zupko comments: “On behalf of Riverwood, we are pleased to recognize Lisa as our seventh DAISY Award winner. She is truly gifted, such a kind caring nurse and is able to quickly form relationships with her patients. We give out the DAISY Award three times a year and encourage all patients to nominate a nurse who delivered outstanding care to them in the hospital or at the clinics.”
Nomination forms are available in Riverwood’s clinic lobbies and included in inpatient packets. The form is also available for downloading at www.riverwoodhealthcare.org (click on News & Events, DAISY Award news release) or by contacting Carla Zupko at (218) 927-5521 or czupko@rwhealth.org
About the DAISY Award
The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, CA, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of diopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
The DAISY Award and DAISY Team Award are initiatives of The DAISY Foundation in service to the nursing profession. Additionally, DAISY offers J. Patrick Barnes Grants for Nursing Research and Evidence-Based Practice Projects, The DAISY Faculty Award to honor inspiring faculty members in schools and colleges of nursing, and The DAISY in Training Award for nursing students.
