The Nov. 5 skin cancer screenings are FULL. No further appointments are being scheduled.
Current estimates are that one in five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime. As part of a national campaign to encourage early detection and teach prevention of skin cancer, Dermatology Professionals is partnering with Riverwood Healthcare to hold a free skin cancer screening clinic in Aitkin on Tues., Nov. 5, 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
This screening is targeted for those who may not have health insurance to cover a medical exam. There will be a limited number of short appointments available with any follow-up treatment that is recommended scheduled for a later date.
To schedule an approximate screening time with Dr. Paul Lundstrom, call Riverwood’s appointment line at (218) 927-2157 and select option 3 for dermatology. Or you may call Dermatology Professionals directly at (218) 454-7546 or toll-free at (888) 841-2897.
As the screening times are brief with no hospital gowns provided, those who come in for the skin cancer screening should wear shorts or a bathing suit under their clothing.
The American Academy of Dermatology’s national detection and prevention program is in its 26th year and is designed to raise awareness of melanoma and urge Americans to regularly examine their skin for signs of this serious form of skin cancer. One American dies from melanoma almost every hour. More than 75 percent of skin cancer deaths are from melanoma.
“The key to successful treatment of most types of cancer is early detection and treatment.” Dr. Lundstrom explains. “Anyone noticing any changes in size, color, shape or texture of a mole, the development of a new mole or any other unusual changes in the skin should see a dermatologist right away.”
Riverwood offers dermatology services from Dermatology Professionals on the first Tuesday at its specialty clinic in Aitkin.
