Riverwood Healthcare trustee earns certification

Robert Lewis, a trustee of Riverwood Healthcare Center in Aitkin, Minn., was honored July 8 for completing the Minnesota Hospital Association (MHA) board member certification program.

Certifications were awarded at the association’s 2011 summer trustee conference.

Under the voluntary training program, hospital board members earn at least 35 education unit credits for studying in topics as varied as strategic planning and positioning and patient safety and quality. The program is designed to help trustees remain up-to-date on healthcare issues, to hone their leadership skills and to develop governance best practices.

Since 2004, Lewis has served as a trustee on the Riverwood Healthcare Center Governing Board of Directors, and as a liaison representative on the Riverwood Foundation Board of Directors.  A retired educator, he resides with his wife, Artie, in the McGregor area, where he is an active member of the McGregor Lions.

“Bob Lewis has shown outstanding commitment to our organization and to healthcare services for local residents during his tenure on our board,” says Michael Hagen, Riverwood chief executive officer. “We commend him for making this extra effort to further develop his leadership skills and governance knowledge. This ongoing education has improved Bob’s understanding of his role as a board member and has brought an increased awareness of new governance issues to Riverwood.”

MHA President and CEO Lawrence Massa adds: “This certification program demonstrates that participants take their stewardship role very seriously. This designation is just one more indication that Riverwood Healthcare Center maintains high standards of excellence.”
