Thirteen students are participating in the annual Health Care Career Exploration curriculum, a joint partnership between Riverwood Healthcare Center and Aitkin High School. AHS juniors and seniors who participate in the program learn firsthand what career opportunities await them in the health care field.
Students must apply and acknowledge an interest in health care before being accepted into the program. This year’s 8-week program runs from Feb. 2 through March 23. During this time, the students meet with Riverwood professionals, specialists, technologists and departments to learn, observe and experience over 30 fields of health care.
“This program continues to offer our students a valuable opportunity to explore health careers,” says Adam Carlson, AHS physical education and health instructor and instructor for the Health Careers curriculum. “Our students are grateful for the time and effort Riverwood’s medical professionals will spend with them in addition to the opportunity to tour a surgical operating room and learn about other hospital and clinical patient procedures and services as well. This on-site course experience better equips high school students to make a decision about their professional career options.”
