Riverwood Healthcare Center is pleased to welcome Dr. Michael Beckmann, who will begin advanced orthopedic fellowship training on August 1. Dr. Beckmann is the fifth surgeon accepted into the one-year orthopedic fellowship program, which provides advanced surgical training and mentorship in adult reconstruction and complex joint replacement procedures.
Working alongside fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeons Dr. Erik Severson and Dr. Jeffrey Klassen, Dr. Beckmann will gain hands-on experience in navigated anterior hip replacement, robotic total knee replacement, shoulder reconstruction, revision arthroplasty, and infection management. The fellowship blends innovative technologies with time-tested surgical principles, equipping surgeons to deliver high-quality, outcomes-driven care in today’s evolving orthopedic landscape.
Dr. Beckmann earned his undergraduate degree from Saint John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota, before attending medical school at the University of Minnesota Medical School in Duluth and the Twin Cities. He recently completed his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at the University of Minnesota and is pursuing fellowship training focused on Adult Reconstruction.
“The patient and their family always comes first,” said Dr. Beckmann, describing his approach to care.
His clinical interests include arthroplasty of the hip, knee, and shoulder; complex and revision joint reconstruction; and orthopedic trauma.
In addition to his surgical training, Dr. Beckmann has contributed to orthopedic research and is a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. His recent publications have explored the impact of body mass index on sacroiliac joint treatment outcomes and the implications for patient care and insurance guidelines.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Beckmann enjoys spending time outdoors. His hobbies include ice fishing, wakeboarding, wake surfing, deer hunting, and outdoor recreation. He and his wife, Samantha, are also looking forward to welcoming their first child in late August.

The orthopedic fellowship program offers intensive, hands-on training in advanced surgical techniques, helping prepare the next generation of orthopedic surgeons to deliver high-quality care to patients throughout Minnesota and beyond.
