A lifetime of trusted care

For Gwen and Dave Dickey, Riverwood has been more than just a hospital— we’ve been a trusted part of their lives for more than 50 years.

After moving to Aitkin in 1969, Gwen went on to build a career at Riverwood, becoming our first ever station secretary before later moving into transcription. She’s seen Riverwood’s growth firsthand, including the memorable day patients were transferred from the original hospital to our current campus.

Since then, the couple have entrusted Riverwood with some of their most important healthcare needs. Dave had urologic surgery with Dr. Brandon Reynolds and later received treatment for a L5 compression fracture from Dr. Dan Lonergan. He recovered well, experienced no complications, and is pleased with his outcomes.

Gwen has also received care from multiple Riverwood specialists. Following a complicated surgery many years ago, she was deeply touched by the compassion of her doctor, who personally checked on her recovery—even while attending a medical conference out-of-state. She’s also had a successful knee replacement and, more recently, a procedure with OB/GYN surgeon Dr. Jennifer Tessmer-Tuck.

“That was something I was nervous about,” Gwen said. “But when I met with my care team, they felt like old friends. It was so comforting, and I wish I’d gotten in sooner.”

For Gwen and Dave, Riverwood’s greatest strength is its ability to combine advanced medical expertise with the personal connections that come from caring for neighbors, friends, and families. They appreciate having access to a wide range of specialty and surgical services locally.

“Getting cared for close to home is so important, and such a privilege,” Gwen said. “We’re lucky to have Riverwood in our backyard.”
