Craig Kampfer M.D., began his post graduate advanced orthopaedic surgical training at the Minnesota Center for Orthopaedics (MCO) at Riverwood Healthcare Center in Aitkin on Aug. 1. He comes here from his last duty station, Fort Cavazos in Texas, where he served in the Army as a general orthopedic surgeon at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center.
Dr. Kampfer is the fourth surgeon to be accepted for the one-year fellowship training program at MCO, which was launched in 2022 with one surgeon training annually. The surgeon will work with two experienced, fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeons—Dr. Erik Severson and Dr. Jeffrey Klassen.
The surgeon will gain experience in navigated anterior hip replacement, robotic total knee replacement, shoulder reconstruction, as well as revision and infection work. The fellowship will prepare him to be successful in navigating the challenges presented by modern surgical practices, all while being able to blend emerging technologies into a time-honored, principle-based practice.
Dr. Kampfer comments, “I believe in patient centered care, and that patients should be encouraged to take an active role in any clinical decision making.”
Dr. Kampfer completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Charleston in West Virginia. He went on to earn his Doctor of Medicine from The Northeast Ohio Medical University. He then completed a military orthopedic residency at Brooke Army Medical Center.
Dr. Kampfer comes to Riverwood with his wife, Haley, and two children, Rory and Thomas. In his spare time, he likes to play golf, he enjoys trivia nights and time with his wife and children.
