How does it work?

The virtual video visit is as private as if you were in the clinic. We use secure software to establish the two-way video and audio connection for each visit.

To enable a virtual visit, those with an internet connection can do this from anywhere. Devices that may be used include a smartphone, laptop, iPad or tablet with a web camera and microphone.  When you schedule a virtual visit, you will receive an email with your appointment details.

Here is what will occur:

  • You will receive an email
  • You will enter a virtual waiting room
  • The appointment will start when your Riverwood clinical team is ready

Troubleshooting Tips:

  • If just clicking once on the appointment link does not work; press the control key and click on the appointment link at the same time.
  • Go to Riverwood’s zoom page, click on Join and enter the Meeting ID listed in the email.
  • If you continue to have issues starting your appointment, please call 218-927-2157 for assistance.

What if I need to be seen in person?
If during your virtual visit, your provider determines you should come in to be seen in the clinic, in-person visits can be scheduled at all three Riverwood clinics in Aitkin, Garrison and McGregor.

How is it paid for?
Virtual visits are covered the same way an in-person visit is through most public and private insurance plans. For those who don’t have insurance coverage for virtual visits or who are uninsured, contact Riverwood’s financial counselor at 218-927-8284 for assistance on programs that may be able to help. If you are using a smartphone and not on a WiFi connection, data charges may apply.

Riverwood Patient Success Stories

Curt Carpenter
“My sister and I participated in a telehealth virtual visit with my father, a cancer patient, and his oncologist, Dr. Aby Philip. The sound and video quality was just like being in the same room with each other. The most powerful thing for me was getting information about my dad’s medical condition firsthand directly from his doctor. I live more than two and a half hours away from my dad so the convenience for me was terrific.”

Laura Lee
“I liked the convenience of my virtual visit for a follow-up with Nurse Practitioner Jen Burgos after starting a new blood pressure medication. I would definitely do this again, especially if I could do the appointment during my lunch hour from work, saving a trip to the clinic and time away from my job. I think it’s a positive service going forward to have health systems offering a way to limit exposure to infectious disease, especially during the flu season.”

Renee Irwin
“My virtual visit was excellent! I was able to download the app easily and did the 45-minute visit with Dr. Hughes on my cell phone. A thumbs up from me on the way Riverwood has handled this need to protect its patients from infectious disease by offering care to us at home. The caring staff makes me feel like family and that we’ll get through this together.”

David Chambers
“I’ve had two virtual visits with my doctor at Riverwood. The first one was for evaluation of some symptoms and then Dr. Krohn did a follow-up visit to see how I was doing. I’m not a computer whiz, but it was very easy to download the app sent to me via email with a link to click on. It was a real positive experience and I would use it again as it was very convenient.”
