In mid-June, Riverwood Healthcare Center welcomed Casey Johnson as chief financial officer (CFO).
“With nine years of experience as a CFO in progressive and growing health systems in Minnesota and North Dakota, Casey brings extensive financial planning and leadership skills that will help lead Riverwood successfully into the future,” says Chad Cooper, Riverwood chief executive officer. “We are very pleased to welcome him to our senior management team and to the community.”
Johnson most recently served as CFO for Sanford Medical Center and Clinic in Thief River Falls, MN, in a role he held since 2009. During his tenure there, he had overall fiscal responsibility for an organization with $70 million in net operating revenues; managed financial and administrative services, as well as the revenue cycle function; plus served in an advisory role for the development of infrastructure during the Sanford-MeritCare merger and system integration.
Previously, from 2005 to 2009, he held CFO positions at Glacial Ridge Health System in Glenwood, MN, and Nelson County Health System in McVille, ND. Similar to Riverwood, both of these organizations included a Critical Access Hospital along with affiliated rural health clinics.
Johnson began his career as a financial analyst for Riverview Health in his hometown of Crookston. He earned a bachelor’s degree in health care administration and health care financial management at Concordia College in Moorhead. He has completed one year of an MBA degree program with a concentration on health care administration at the University of Colorado and expects to graduate in summer 2015.
“I was attracted to the CFO role at Riverwood for several reasons,” says Casey Johnson. “Riverwood is fiscally strong and well positioned to cope with the ever-changing health care environment. The solid relationships the organization has developed to bring high quality health care to this community is impressive. The team of heath care professionals here and their dedication to the mission of delivering high quality care with compassion and a personal touch is another huge plus. I also like being able to work for a health system with a strong community and wellness focus.”
Johnson adds: “This is a great area to raise a family. My wife and I both grew up spending summers at the lake in northern Minnesota. We have always thought that if our kids could grow up in an area like this where there is so much opportunity to be outdoors and active, it would be ideal.”
Casey and his wife, Sarah, have two children, Jude (4) and Aubrey (2). They enjoy numerous sports-related and outdoor activities including fishing and being at the lake as well as spending time with friends and family.
