Nurse practitioner joins cardiology team at Riverwood

Riverwood Healthcare Center is pleased to welcome Nurse Practitioner Matthew Jerulle to its cardiology provider team. Jerulle, a specialist in cardiovascular and preventive cardiology with Allina Health Minneapolis Heart Institute (MHI), will collaborate closely with Dr. Peter Stokman and Dr. Tim Dirks, MHI cardiologists who have provided expert care at Riverwood’s specialty clinic in Aitkin for many years.

Jerulle earned his Bachelor of Nursing degree from The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth and his Master’s degree in Nursing from Walden University, where he trained as an Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.

With more than 10 years of nursing experience, Jerulle explains his approach to patient care: “My philosophy is to provide personalized, evidence-based care that emphasizes prevention, early intervention, and patient education—all critical to improving cardiovascular health and quality of life.”

Jerulle’s passion for cardiology developed during his decade-long tenure as an ICU nurse, where he cared for patients with complex cardiac conditions.

“Over time, I realized I could make an even greater impact by helping people manage and prevent heart disease before it becomes critical,” he adds.

Outside of work, Jerulle and his wife, Gabrielle, are raising their three young sons. He enjoys golfing, hunting, fishing, and mountain biking, as well as coaching and skating with his kids during ice hockey season.
