Cardiologist Joins Riverwood Heart Health Team

Riverwood Healthcare Center is pleased to announce that Dr. Krishna Prabhu of the Allina Health Minneapolis Heart Institute (MHI) has joined the cardiology provider team. He will begin seeing patients at Riverwood’s specialty clinic in Aitkin.

Specializing in cardiovascular disease, Dr. Prabhu joins fellow MHI cardiologists, Dr. Tim Dirks and Dr. Sohaib Basharat, who have been offering care at Riverwood’s specialty clinic in Aitkin for many years.

Dr. Prabhu earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard College and went on to receive his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He also studied at the University of Oxford. He completed his residency at the University of Washington and his cardiovascular disease fellowship at Hennepin Healthcare and Minneapolis Heart Institute.

Board certified and board eligible in cardiovascular disease, Dr. Prabhu has professional interests in cardiac computed tomography and prevention.

He believes that while we have incredible life-saving technologies, they too often don’t reach the people who need them most. His philosophy is to ensure that everyone—no matter where they live or what their background may be—has access to the highest quality of care.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Prabhu enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, fishing, and hiking.

Allina Health Minneapolis Heart Institute was formed in 1981 with the goal of providing expert clinical care, educating both the public and health care professionals and advancing the field of cardiology through research. Over the past 40-plus years, the Institute has grown to be one of the top-rated cardiovascular centers in the world, consistently recognized by US News and World Report.

Cardiology providers give compassionate guidance to help patients navigate their heart care plan and get them back to activities they enjoy. They see patients in several communities throughout Minnesota and western Wisconsin, offering cardiology consultation and cardiac diagnostic services where it is most convenient for patients.
