Patient “believes in miracles” . . . thanks to his RHCC TEAM!

Nick Coulter, a patient of Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Janet Larson, tells how a team approach to healing the mind and body saved his life. His amazing story is posted on our website and featured in a June 7 Aitkin Age ad. READ STORY

Cindy Meierhofer, Janet Larson, Nick Coulter & Marc Carley

In addition to Janet, Nick’s team included Marc Carley, physical therapist; Dan Schletty, wellness coach; and Cindy Meierhofer, the nurse who coordinated lots of communication with him.  KUDOS to all!

Through the summer/fall, we will be featuring a series of testimonials from patients who were featured in our new video, with their stories posted on our website and ads in the Aitkin Age.

Farewell Laura Smith!

Many thanks to Laura Smith, RN, for 23 years of service caring for hospital patients at Riverwood!
Staffers wished her well at a retirement reception last week.

Computer security is everyone’s responsibility
From Daryl Kallevig, Chief Information Officer

Lately I’ve sent emails related to Cyber Security Ransomware attacks. Please remember that you as employees are our second line of defense when it comes to security of our network and the resources available through our network, and you have been doing very well based on our exposure to date.  In addition to being aware and suspicious of emails that contain attachments from individuals  you don’t know, we have continued to see in walking-around checks and audits that PC and Laptop workstations are NOT being locked when you leave your work area or device.  This leaves you as an employee vulnerable and at risk for someone to inappropriately use your login credentials to access PHI.

Please note that 80% of all confidentiality violations are caused by employees of an organization! Many of those are caused by a co-worker coming up to an unlocked workstation and viewing confidential patient information, which you would be responsible for since it is your log-on credentials that were used.

Please protect your workstation from unauthorized access. As a reminder here are some security & confidentiality tips:

  • Use strong passwords, i.e. include upper and lower case alpha characters, mix in special or numeric characters
  • When you leave you r work station even for a short period of time and it is out of your line of sight, please lock your workstation or suspend your Excellian session.
  • Only open up emails from people you know and that you are expecting. The attacker can impersonate the sender, or the computer belonging to someone you know may be infected without his or her knowledge.
  • Don’t click on links in emails if you weren’t expecting them — the attacker could camouflage a malicious link to make it look like it is from your CEO/CFO, or your bank, for example.
  • If you are unsure about a link or attachment, contact the sender via another method (phone, in person, etc.) to verify that they actually sent you the message.
  • Do not provide your passwords or personal details to anyone.

Please remember, Riverwood and Sisu staff members will never ask you for your account passwords.
