First 2018 baby is ‘roadside’ delivery

The first baby of the year for Riverwood arrived in a hurry. At 8:29 a.m. on Jan. 19, Kelsey Henson had to do a self-delivery in the car while a friend was driving. Her daughter, Javeah Mae, was born midway between Brainerd and Aitkin near Deerwood. The father, Jeremy Henson, was following close behind in another vehicle and on hand to help his wife and baby transfer to an ambulance for the remaining 10 miles to Riverwood where Dr. Don Hughes was the attending physician. Congratulations to Jeremy and Kelsey!

At 20 ¾ inches long, Javeah weighs 8 lbs., 7 oz. She joins three big sisters at home in Brainerd.

Our OB staff presented the family with a gift basket of baby items.

See the Jan. 24 Aitkin Age article, on the front page, with more details on Javeah’s early arrival from Kelsey and comments from Dr. Hughes.
