Riverwood Healthcare Center is pleased to announce that Katie Nelson is the new director of Riverwood Foundation, effective Dec. 18. In this position, she is responsible for the strategic direction and fund development through special projects, annual campaigns and planned giving. She also oversees the hospital’s auxiliary volunteers and their fundraising activities.
“We are very pleased to have Katie move into this important leadership role, bringing eight years of experience working in a fundraising capacity for Riverwood as well as a strong passion and commitment to philanthropy,” says Riverwood CEO Chad Cooper. “The work that the foundation does will be more important than ever as we look to the future, and Katie’s leadership and guidance will be instrumental in helping ensure a growing and vibrant foundation for years to come.”
Nelson, who has served as interim director since July 2014, first joined the Riverwood Foundation staff in January 2007. During her time with the foundation she has successfully coordinated multiple events, played a key role in the Better Together Capital Campaign, and been actively involved in successful donor development activities throughout the communities Riverwood serves. In December 2013, she completed her master’s degree in Philanthropy and Development through St. Mary’s University.
“I’m very excited to have the opportunity to continue my work at Riverwood, especially with the donors who have made a positive impact on local health care and the communities we serve,” Nelson says. “Financial support from local residents and others has been vital to enhancing local health care services at Riverwood’s hospital and clinics for many years. I invite all who are looking for ways to make a difference with their charitable dollars to contact me to discuss the many options the foundation offers.”
