Riverwood welcomes new family physician

Jessica Hodson, DO, sees patients at Riverwood clinics in Aitkin & Garrison

Riverwood Healthcare Center welcomes Jessica Hodson, DO, family medicine physician who will begin seeing patients in mid-August.

“We are excited to welcome Jessica to our family practice medical staff,” says Dr. Mark Heggem, Chief Medical Officer. “With her osteopathic degree and training, she brings to Riverwood an extra level of expertise in the treatment of musculoskeletal issues and a holistic approach to medicine.”

Hodson will see patients primarily in Aitkin with several days a month in Garrison. Her professional interests include obstetric care, pediatrics and osteopathic medicine, which involves manipulation of the body to help it heal itself.

“Practicing at Riverwood in a smaller community appeals to me because I can see patients across the full spectrum of family medicine, from birth to end of life,” Hodson explains. “I like that while the medical facilities here are small we can still offer cutting-edge technology to patients.”

A midwestern native, Hodson grew up in Rochester, Michigan. She attended the University of Michigan, where she earned a B.S. degree in biopsychology. She completed her medical degree—doctor of osteopathy—at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Brandenton, Florida. She completed a one-year internship in osteopathic medicine at Duke Southern Regional Area Health Education Center in Fayetteville, North Carolina. She spent the last two years of her residency training at Cabarraus Family Medicine in Concord, North Carolina.

“I love boating and getting out on the water so living right in the heart of northwoods lake country was very attractive to me and my husband,” Hodson says.  “I look forward to getting involved in the community and one of the first things I’ll be doing is teaching Zumba, which combines Latin and international music and dancing for a fun cardio workout, through Aitkin’s community education program.”

Hodson recently moved to the Aitkin area with her husband, John, who has a master’s degree in education and recently began working as the new community education director in Aitkin. In her leisure time, she enjoys boating, cooking, running, and Zumba.
