Kelsey Henson – Family Medicine

Although there are health systems closer to her home in Brainerd, Kelsey Henson trusts her family’s healthcare to Riverwood Healthcare Center in Aitkin.

“Over the past six years and several pregnancies, I’ve had such amazing patient experiences at Riverwood,” Kelsey explains. “It’s such a nice hospital. The staff is so kind. They remember me and ask about my family on every visit. They genuinely care—that is the deal maker for me.”

The connection Kelsey feels with her primary care provider, Dr. Don Hughes, is a very strong bond.

“He’s so down to earth and genuinely tries to get to know his patients,” Kelsey said. “ I’ve built a very close relationship with him through my OB care and his care for my four daughters and husband. When you have small children, it’s so nice to feel comfortable discussing all the issues that can arise.”

Kelsey appreciates the spaciousness and home-like atmosphere of Riverwood’s birthing suites, which she has used three times.

“There is plenty of space for family members to visit and my kids to sit and watch TV,” Kelsey says. “The entire staff catered to my family’s needs during our hospital stay, asking about our comfort and delivering meals for all of us. The care is just phenomenal!”
