Harvey & Judy Blomberg – Surgery

Harvey and Judy Blomberg appreciate having state-of-the-art surgery and specialty care services close to home. Lifelong residents of Aitkin, they’ve been getting their health needs cared for at Riverwood since it was called Aitkin Community Hospital.

Both Harvey and Judy have experienced total joint replacements with Dr. Erik Severson, an orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in hip and knee replacements as well as revision surgery when needed. He developed a Rapid Recovery pain management protocol that is delivering outstanding patient outcomes.

Harvey comments: “After two hip replacements, I feel better than ever. Before surgery, I was walking bent over with back pain. Now I walk like a new man.”

Judy underwent a knee replacement and was happy to be back on her feet so quickly. She has had ongoing needs for orthopaedic care, most recently for a fractured ankle.

She adds: “What I like about the care at Riverwood is that the doctors give me choices on how I want to proceed with treatment. For example, when I had breast cancer, I was advised that I only needed a lumpectomy, but I decided to have a double mastectomy to eliminate the risk of cancer spreading to my other breast and the need for radiation treatments.”

Harvey and Judy both feel happy and thankful to have access to high quality care at a hospital and clinic where they feel like family and know many of the caregivers. They appreciate the skilled and compassionate care from all the doctors who have treated them at Riverwood.
