Bob Wiesner had both hips replaced by Dr. Erik Severson at Riverwood Healthcare Center last year. He and his wife have lived in Rochester, Minnesota, for many years while owning a lake home in Aitkin County. He was the owner of a real estate company until 2018. After suffering from severe hip pain due to osteoarthritis and his hip joints wearing out, Bob decided it was time to pursue joint replacement surgery.
“We have a lake home in Aitkin County and I had retired recently. As a result, we spend most of the summer months at our lake home. I had done some physical therapy for my hips at Riverwood and also had some other small medical issues resolved there. My wife and I were very impressed with the staff. So, we decided to consider hip replacement there as well.”
What drew Bob to having joint replacement surgery at Riverwood was Dr. Severson and his orthopaedic surgical skills and the exceptional orthopaedic team, from clinic and surgery nurses to physical therapists and anesthesia specialists. During his care at Riverwood, Bob noted that the people and their kindness stood out to him the most.
“Dr. Severson confirmed what we had heard from doctors in Rochester. I needed hip replacements and that it would be a good idea to do them soon since I was relatively young and in fairly good shape.”
The distance between Rochester and Aitkin—200 miles— was manageable for Bob because of his lake house south of town.
“I stayed in the hospital for one night after each surgery. After two weeks, I was using a cane without a walker. After three weeks, I walked without either.”
“I can’t believe anyone could do a better job on a joint replacement than Dr. Severson and his staff. I never had to use prescription pain medication during my recovery.”
