New nurse practitioner at Riverwood clinics

Riverwood Healthcare Center is pleased to announce that Family Nurse Practitioner Jackie Barney is now available to see patients in Aitkin and McGregor. In addition to seeing patients several Saturdays a month in Garrison, she recently began seeing patients in Aitkin and McGregor one day a week on Thursdays.

“Jackie joined Riverwood’s healthcare team six months ago and we are happy to have her see patients at all three of our clinics now,” says Barb Fulton, clinic and outpatient services manager. “She brings great experience in family practice as well as a commitment to delivering healthcare services with personalized care and compassion.”

Barney received her BA degree in nursing from The College of St. Scholastica in 2004. Then she went on to get her master’s degree in nursing and training as a nurse practitioner at St. Scholastica, completing her degree in 2007. Since 2007, she has worked as a nurse practitioner at St. Mary’s Duluth Clinic in Superior, Wisconsin. In addition to seeing patients in clinic, she does rounding in nursing homes and rehab centers in Superior. Previously, she worked as a registered nurse at St. Mary’s Duluth Clinic and Community Memorial Hospital in Cloquet, gaining experience in post-surgical care, intensive care and emergency medicine.

Barney’s professional interests include the whole spectrum of family medicine, from offering well child and preventive medicine for adults to managing advanced chronic illnesses. In addition to being a board-certified nurse practitioner in family practice, she also has certification as an asthma educator and for advanced cardiac life support.

“I feel very warmly welcomed by both the community and the medical staff at Riverwood since starting here last fall,” Barney says. “I’m looking forward to seeing more patients in Aitkin and McGregor.”

Barney lives in Cloquet with her husband, Jason, and two sons, Kolby, 12, and Luke, 6.
