Prostate enlargement, also known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), affects millions of men around the world and can lead to bothersome problems such as frequent urination, urgency, and blocked or reduction in the low of urine. Riverwood Healthcare Center offers a minimally invasive procedure called UroLift that can provide long-term relief from these symptoms without the side effects of traditional treatments.

Unlike other BPH treatments, which involve either medication or surgery, UroLift requires no cutting, heating, or removal of prostate tissue.  Instead, small implants are placed in the prostate to lift and hold the enlarged tissue out of the way to improve urine flow.

“This is a quick and easy procedure that can be done under sedation,” said Dr. Matthew Watson, a urologist at Riverwood Healthcare Center. “Most patients experience significant improvement in their symptoms within days and are able to return to normal activities quickly.”

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) can have a negative impact on a man’s quality of life. The benefits of the UroLift treatment, especially for younger men, includes not only the relief of bothersome urinary symptoms, but also the preservation of sexual function.

Dr. Matthew Watson, urologist commented “I am excited to offer patients a minimally invasive procedure that effectively addresses their BPH symptoms. With UroLift accessible in our community, we can promptly restore comfort, improve urinary function, and enhance the overall well-being of our patients.”
