New education and support on breastfeeding

If you’re a new mother of a newborn or expecting a baby for the first time, you probably have questions about breastfeeding.

RiverwoodHealthcareCenterhas nurses specially trained as certified lactation counselors who are available to offer education and support to women on breastfeeding. Beginning on April 2, Riverwood will offer ongoing weekly support sessions on Tuesdays from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the birthing center in the hospital’s inpatient unit.

“Our lactation counselors will lead an open discussion about breastfeeding in a relaxed and casual atmosphere,” says Mary Belz, registered nurse and obstetric care coordinator. “We invite women to come with their questions and to get support and more information about breastfeeding.”

If you have any questions about these sessions, call the hospital’s main number at (218) 927-2121 and ask for a nurse in Labor and Delivery. Another source of information and sharing for expecting or new parents is Riverwood’s Birthing Center Facebook page.
