ERCP involves passing an endoscope through the mouth, esophagus, and stomach to the duodenum, where a catheter injects dye into the ducts for detailed X-rays. This provides more information than standard X-rays, helping detect organ abnormalities and diseases. Therapeutic ERCP techniques can address blocked bile ducts, extract stones, and improve drainage with stents. Patients under general anesthesia for ERCP experience no incisions, often going home the same day without post-procedural restrictions.

Through the IBT weight loss program, Stan was able to lose 30 pounds!

- [Heather Rikala – Cancer Care](https://riverwoodhealthcare.org/riverwood-stories/heather-rikala-cancer-care/): With a family history of colon cancer, Heather Rikala got tested early with a colonoscopy at age 31. Having family members with colon cancer puts an individual at higher risk for developing colon cancer. Most colon cancers occur independently, but an estimated 5 to 10 percent of colon cancers are a direct result of heredity. Talk to your healthcare provider about you risk factors and when to get screened for colon cancer.
- [Chip Borkenhagen – Cancer Care](https://riverwoodhealthcare.org/riverwood-stories/chris-borkenhagen-cancer-care/): Chip Borkenhagen, who grew up in Aitkin and moved back here from the Brainerd area a few years ago, shares his story of care and recovery from colon cancer at Riverwood Healthcare Center. After graduating from Aitkin High School, he went on to Minneapolis College of Art and Design to pursue a career in graphic design. With his wife, Jean, they owned and operated an advertising agency, design studio, and published the Lake Country Journal Magazine. He continues doing graphic design and book publishing today. After a year of intensive treatment and recovery, he is again enjoying his passions for gardening, small farming and outdoor exploring, oil painting and photography.

- [Dan Borseth – Cardiology Care](https://riverwoodhealthcare.org/riverwood-stories/dan-borseth-cardiology-care/): A year ago Dan Borseth, who runs the Pine Insurance Agency in Aitkin, thought his heart health was fine. In January 2017, he was preparing for left hip replacement surgery. A day after his pre-op exam for hip surgery, he suffered a major heart attack.

The entire project is estimated to reach completion in spring 2019.
