National Patient Safety Goals

As a Joint Commission accredited facility, our staff is responsible for being knowledgeable about and implementing National Patient Safety Goals. We will be sharing a series of these goals monthly via this newsletter and signage in staff break rooms.  This will help to prepare you for questions that may occur during a Joint Commission site visit (coming up Fall 2016).

Safety Goal #1

Recognizing our SLP Team in Rehab

Our Rehab staff celebrated Better Hearing & Speech Month in May. Speech and Language Pathologists help those whose lives have been disrupted by injury, disease, the aging process or developmental problems. Common diagnoses that they treat include communication delay or disorders, concussion, stroke and traumatic brain injury, swallowing, voice disorders, cognitive-linguistic dysfunction, and dyarthria, especially related to Parkinson’s Disease. Our Rehabilitation Department is staffed by three Speech and Language Pathologists, Jerry Carlson, Christine Dotzenrod Childress and Shawna Hill. Together, they bring 60+ years of experience to helping patients recover and improve the skills needed for daily living and working, which ultimately improves quality of life.
