Chronic Pain class series in Aitkin

Sara Rian & Annette Beaufeaux, class instructors

Living with chronic pain every day can be a huge challenge. Now there is help to discover strategies for managing pain.

Riverwood Healthcare Center is offering a class called “Living Well with Chronic Pain” in Aitkin. The class will meet on six Thursdays, 1:00 to 3:30 p.m., Feb. 6, 13, 20, 27, March 5 and 12 at the Aitkin hospital in Room F in the Michael Ryan Support Services wing.

Participants learn strategies to overcome frustration, fatigue, isolation, and poor sleep, exercises for maintaining and improving strength, appropriate use of medications, evaluating new treatment and the importance of good nutrition. They will make weekly action plans, share experiences and help each other solve problems as they carry out their plan.

Benefits include connecting with others managing chronic pain, strengthening community support, and developing skills to partner with health care professionals. Extensive research shows that this course will support—not replace—medical care from qualified healthcare professionals, and improve overall health and wellbeing.

While those with chronic pain are urged to attend this class, anyone interested in improving his or her health may attend.

There is a requested donation for a $20 fee for the “Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Pain” workbook. Those who complete all six classes will receive $20 in Aitkin Bucks.
