A gift of caring for cancer patients

Rebekah quilt donation_Mar2014The Rebekah Lodge of Aitkin (auxiliary of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows) donated seven lap quilts to Riverwood Healthcare for use by cancer patients receiving chemotherapy. Elaine Wischmann, Rebekah member, explained the goal of this statewide service project is “to let local cancer patients know our community cares for them.”

Each quilt is stitched with this message: “Those who lay under this blanket, lay under a blanket of love.” Pictured are six Lodge members, two Riverwood nurses and Riverwood’s Foundation director.  From left are Elaine Wischmann; Wilma Sandberg; Roxanne Molin-Rietvald, RN; Judy Anderson; Dawn Harcey, RN; Florence Tarr; Elsie Paulson; Jodie Johnson, Riverwood Foundation; and Ellen Gruhlke. The quilts were gratefully accepted by Riverwood, which offers an accredited Commission on Cancer oncology program.
