As part of its ongoing commitment to wellness programming for improving health, Riverwood Healthcare Center will begin participating in the Farm2Riverwood program in September. On Sept. 15, Riverwood Food Service staff will serve a special Farm Fresh meal, fajitas (with chicken from Willowsedge Farm) on a whole grain tortilla and Honey Crisp apples (from Gilby’s Orchard) , at a cost of $6 in its cafeteria and to its hospital patients.
Riverwood, along with Rippleside Elementary School and Hill City School District, is contracting with Aitkin County farmers to offer nutrient-dense, minimally processed, farm fresh foods such as potatoes, eggs, chicken, beef and apples. Each month, Riverwood will serve a special meal prepared with locally grown foods in its cafeteria. Each meal will cost just $6.00 and will be available to Riverwood employees, patients and visitors.
Human Resources Director Cindi Hills comments: “A HUGE thank you to our Food Service team for implementing this innovative project to support good health and nutrition for our patients and staff!”
Included in the Farm2Rivewrood program are Chengwatana Farm, Gilby’s Orchard, Grimsbo Family Farm, Gun Lake Potato Farm, Maple Ridge Farm, Mighty Mini Farm, Ole’s Acres, and WillowSedge Farm. This program is made possible through Healthy Northland (Statewide Health Improvement Program) and the Aitkin County Health & Human Services Public Health Unit.
